PTA Activities --> 8th Grade recognition

8th Grade Recognition

8th Graders celebrate the end of their short time at Herndon Middle School with an informal dance jointly sponsored by the school, the HMS Student Council Assoc. (SCA), and the HMS PTA. This informal event is held in the school cafeteria, and is exclusively for HMS 8th graders.

The SCA decides on a theme, and works with the PTA and HMS staff on food and decorations.

There is a strict dress code enforced for the students. In the past, this has been as follows:

Girls

  • No spaghetti strap dresses or tops.
  • Dresses should not be "formal" type.
  • Dresses should be of a length that is suitable to be worn to school.
  • No shorts.

Boys

  • No shorts are allowed.
  • Pants are suggested to be khaki-style and not excessively baggy.
  • Shirts are suggested to be collar-style.
  • Shoes should be dress-type, no tennis shoes.

Parent volunteers are needed to help with the planning of the dance, donating food and drinks, as well as helping the night of the dance.
